The Vita-A Retinal Shot: for who
This is a 15ml booster with 0.1% liposomized retinal and 3% Matrixyl (two peptides). It also has panthenol, niacinamide, vitamin C and vitamin E. It is listed for fine lines and pores, and it is fragrance-free and alcohol-free. Retinal is a form of vitamin A that is stronger than a gentle retinol, so it is not a first product for a total beginner.
If you have never used a retinoid, I would not start with this one in the middle of winter or just before a long trek. Start with a small amount, two nights a week, at night only. Add a night when your skin has no stinging or peeling. Always wear sunscreen the next morning, because retinoids make skin more sensitive to sun, and the UV in the Kathmandu Valley is already strong. Read sun protection at high altitude if you need convincing. Do a patch test first.
If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, ask your doctor before using any retinoid. Skip this booster until you have the answer. Do not use it on the same night as strong acids. This 35ml cream has 5% niacinamide, 5% tranexamic acid and 1% Melazero V2, plus a ceramide complex, hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan. It is made for pores, dark spots and uneven tone. It is a cream, so it works as a moisturiser too, which is nice if you want to keep your routine short. It costs NPR 2,300 now.
A cream like this will not do much on its own if you skip sunscreen. Dark spots come back with UV. That is the plain truth, and it is why a sunscreen should be bought together with it.
