If your face is shiny by noon, you are not alone. Hot and humid weather in Kathmandu, the Terai and many other places makes oily skin worse in summer and during the monsoon. Here is a routine that keeps things simple.

The biggest mistake

Many people with oily skin skip moisturiser or wash their face again and again. That can make it worse. When skin is stripped and dry underneath, it makes even more oil to make up for it. So the goal is to clean gently and keep some water in your skin.

A simple routine

Morning

  1. Cleanser. Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Poremizing Deep Cleansing Foam is made for pores and does not feel harsh.
  2. Toner. ANUA Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner helps calm skin and keeps oil down.
  3. Moisturiser. A light gel or lotion. Purito SEOUL Wonder Releaf Centella Cream is not heavy and many oily skin users like it.
  4. Sunscreen. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+ is light and not greasy.

Night

  1. Oil cleanser if you wore sunscreen or makeup. Then the foam cleanser.
  2. Toner.
  3. Moisturiser.

That is enough. You do not need ten steps.

Add a serum later

After a month, you can add one serum. If you also have dark marks, try ANUA Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Dark Spot Serum. Use it at night first and see how your skin reacts.

Things that help

  • Wash your face twice a day, not more.
  • Do not pop pimples. It leaves marks, and in brown skin those marks can last months.
  • Change your pillow cover every week.
  • Use water-based or gel products in summer.

Things that do not help

  • Very hot water
  • Scrubs every day
  • Skipping sunscreen because it feels greasy. Try a lighter one instead.

Winter

In the dry months your skin may need a bit more cream. Switch to a slightly richer moisturiser, but keep the rest the same.
